St Columba College

Welcome to St Columba College, Australia's unique joint venture school established in 1997 as an initiative of the Anglican and Catholic archbishops of Adelaide. St Columba offers high quality, contemporary educational opportunities for girls and boys from Reception to Year 12 in a creative, spiritual environment.

St Columba College is located in the northern Adelaide suburb of Andrews Farm on two sites at President Avenue - the Primary School which hosts classes from Reception to Year 6 and the Middle / Senior School for students in Years 7 to 12.

Teaching in the College's Primary School has a strong focus on targeting skills in literacy and numeracy providing a foundation for future success. The Middle / Senior School, with its modern, state-of-the-art facilities, offers a wide range of subjects and programs designed to educate students widely while being mindful of their future study or employment aspirations.

St Columba takes great pride in its own community and the northern region of Adelaide. It offers an extensive Community Education program and is the focal point of a number of key community based initiatives in partnership with the local governments of Salisbury, Playford and Gawler.

Tapped In - St Columba Water Grant

St Columba College has been the successful recipient of a $36,000 Community Water Grant.

The Australian Government Community Grants are part of the $2b Australian Water Fund. It provides grants of up to $50,000 for community organisations to put in place practical on-the-ground solutions to either help save, re-use or improve the health of the local water sources.

St Columba has been able to use the grant to install water-saving devices in the College's Primary School. In particular the following devices have been installed:
Water-efficient toilet pans and cisterns that use 50% less water

  • Push-button water-restricting taps that work on a time basis
  • Pressure-limiting valves

These innovations are expected to save approximately 950,000 litres of water - the equivalent of the water contained in twenty ten-metre domestic swimming pools!

As the College Principal, Ms Madeleine Brennan, remarked:

"The Community Water Grants encourage better use and improvements in water use and water quality through practical on-the-ground projects. The water-saving devices utilised in the Primary School will go a long way in ensuring that St Columba saves a serious amount of water for the community."

Originally the older-style large pans/cisterns and manual taps were a tremendous drain on the College's water usage. With the support of the Community Water Grants, the new facilities have changed for the better with substantial water savings.
