Iona
Iona is the name of the island that St Columba used as a centre for refuge and learning.
Today, our Iona Centres, on both the primary and senior sites, are enrichment venues for students who need either additional learning support or extended challenges. Individualised Learning Plans are developed, in partnership with parents, on a needs basis.
Primary
On the primary site, the Special Education Teacher, Gifted Education Coordinator and support staff work in partnership with teachers to deliver intervention programs to cater for the needs of our students. These include Reading Rocketeers, Rainbow Reading, Reading Recovery, Scientific Research and Mentoring. Gifted students, and those with special needs, receive a differentiated curriculum across targeted subject areas.
Support at the senior site is designed to meet the needs of the Years 7 – 12. As necessary, Subject teachers send to the Centre students who require support with assignments, assessment tasks and organisation. Other students access the centre to complete work or develop community study units. This enrichment centre is also staffed by a Special Education Teacher, support staff and a Gifted Education Coordinator.
