Welcome to the
St Columba College Website. I hope that the information contained
in these pages is helpful and begins to give you a picture of how
our College views the educational experience.
You will no
doubt become aware that our College is both Anglican and Catholic,
established in 1997 by both Churches. The fact that we are truly
Anglican and Catholic calls us to ensure that we offer an education
that takes into account a person's spiritual development. Everything
our College does finds its basis in our Christian heritage and Anglican
and Catholic traditions.
I hope that
you will also notice that our College is committed to maintaining
high standards in all areas of College life. We take a great pride
in student achievement, whether that achievement be in academic
programmes or in vocational education and training. We believe it
is important for students to take pride in their appearance and
so we put a great deal of emphasis on the correct wearing of the
College uniform. We believe that respect for self and others form
the basis of a happy community, and as such the way that we treat
one another is key to the total educational experience. In essence
we want our students to be both successful and happy.
From the beginning
of the College in 1997 rapid growth was experienced. The College
now offers education from Reception to Year 12. While we have a total enrolment of over 1300 across the College,
students belong to one of three sub-sections: Primary R-6; or Middle
School Years 7-9; or Senior Secondary Years 10-12. It is important
that students have a sense of belonging while also ensuring that
our structures for the pastoral care of individual student can be
of the highest quality.
Facilities at
the College are second to none and needless to say we are proud
of what we can offer students. However, excellent facilities are
of little use unless teachers are also exceptional, and this is
where I believe our College 'shines'. Exceptional facilities; wonderful
staff and happy students support educational excellence.
St Columba College
is unique, not only is it the first school to be planned from its
inception as a combined Anglican and Catholic school, it is also
one of the first schools to seriously consider the issue of Life
Long Learning.
The College
is presently in the process of developing courses for adult education
opportunities (outside of student class time). This will also enable
many of our senior students the opportunity to continue developing
their personal interests even when they have graduated from the
College as a student.
There is so
much more that I would like to tell you about St Columba College!
I hope that our website conveys some of the exciting nature of the
wonderful 'happenings' at our College. Enjoy your visit!
In the words
of our patron Columba, Deep Peace!
