David Haydon
Getting a kick out of life.

David Haydon doesn’t have to think too hard to recall his days as a St Columba student.  Having completed his SACE in 2010 David is one of our most recent graduates, and one who can be extremely proud of his accomplishments in the short period of time that has elapsed since his school days.  David has a lot on his plate balancing his time between his studies of Mechanical and Sports Engineering at the University of Adelaide, his commitments as a league footballer at Central Districts and the regular social life of an eighteen year old.

David completed his SACE with a TER score of 93, well and truly enough to gain a place into his desired engineering course.  He is studying a double degree in both Mechanical and Sports Engineering which relies heavily on the knowledge David gained through his studies of both Mathematics and Physics in Year 12.

When David is not studying, chances are you will find him training or playing at Central Districts Football Club where he has debuted in their all-conquering league team this season.   This is an outstanding effort in such a strong team and we asked David to tell us a little about his footballing journey to date.

“I started playing when I was nine years old in the under 10s at Angle Vale.  I played there for four years before moving to play for Smithfied in the under 14s and 15s so I could qualify for an association team which was to play in Moorabin, Victoria.  Since then I’ve played junior football at Central Districts.  Last year when I was studying Year 12 I managed to play seventeen games in the reserves, and this year I have played the first eight games in the reserves and the last seven in the league team.”

“The discipline required to achieve success in Year 12 has also really helped me since school.  Learning to do things which I need to do in order to be successful, when I don’t necessarily feel like doing them, is key to my study and football.”

Being such a recent Old Scholar means David is still in contact with many of his peers from our 2010 cohort.  David says he has extremely positive memories of his years at St Columba and is keen to remain involved as an active Old Scholar wherever his life journey takes him.  Wherever this may be, we certainly wish him all the very best of luck.
